ABSTRACT

In Peru, heavy precipitations (PR) are the second natural phenomenon with greatest number of people affected in recent decades. Landslides (known as “huaycos” Peru) mostly produced by PR and located overall on Andes mountains. In this regard, to monitoring inform advance about most susceptible regions landslides, National Service Meteorology Hydrology Peru (SENAMHI) has launched national system for landslides PR, called SILVIA (“Sistema de Monitoreo Movimientos en Masa generados por Lluvias Intensas” spanish).

The methodology couple thresholds (7 days antecedent PR) from PISCO operational precipitation (a gridded daily product SENAMHI) susceptibility map landslide hazard Peruvian Geological, Mining Metallurgical Institute (INGEMMET). Both inputs products combined a purposely-built matrix get spatially temporally variable hazard: while statistical used accomplish temporal definition very coarse spatial resolution, maps provide static information probability occurrence at fine resolution. The combines three classes (S1, low susceptibility; S2 medium S3 high susceptibility) rate (L1, L2, L3), defining classes, P1 (low hazard) P3 (high hazard).

SILVIA been SENAMHI (https://www.senamhi.gob.pe/?p=monitoreo-silvia) scale. implementation warning improved using forecasting generating daily-time forecast cope streams activation subbasins (“Activación quebradas”, https://www.senamhi.gob.pe/?p=aviso-activacion-quebrada).
