ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to implement at the CEA a grid search moment tensor inversion scheme (GRiD MT) for rapid detection and characterization seismic events, monitor low moderate magnitude earthquakes in France. Given heterogeneity network crustal geology over country, we propose use combination source grids focusing on specific regions. The GRiD MT approach requires an extensive preliminary analysis define different parameters (velocity model, frequency band, stations) spacing (in latitude, longitude depth). Here, present advances made towards implementation Using recent earthquakes, such as 2019 ML 5.4 Le Teil earthquake, near Montelimar Southern France, discuss validity tool earthquake routine. results applied South-East region are close those published by other agencies (USGS, IPGP, OCA, INGV) terms location, focal mechanism. Nonetheless, more care needed smallest events. We also precision uncertainties constraining using method, especially when considering goodness fit unique criterion identify potential source, Earth’s structures. In end, show that may be interesting analyze events France within only few minutes after their occurrence. However, range raises some challenging questions answered.
