ABSTRACT
Many water bodies are, as a result of anthropogenic influences, such river straightening, bank fixation, or damming in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) not good ecological state anymore. With aim to return status for surface waters, restoration measures are implemented many rivers. However, success and sustainability often site-dependent require hence an objective assessment. In this study, Multi-Parameter Approach assess Clogging (MultiPAC) was used suitability different riverbed strategies. MultiPAC is based on several measured physico-chemical parameters, which enable detailed investigation in-situ conditions gravel-bed The approach includes measurements sediment composition identifying subsurface grain size distributions fine fractions. In addition, porosity obtained by using Structure-from-Motion Replacement Method freeze-core samples. Finally, interstitial oxygen concentration so-called slurping rates, converted into hydraulic conductivity, were performed double-packer system called VertiCo.The residual stretch between Jettenbach Töging at Inn River Germany provided means evaluate measures, February March 2020. Investigations gravel bars, where replenished mechanical break-up bed armour layer conducted. investigations before measure implementation, shortly afterwards (March 2020) November 2020 investigate impact flood event 10-year period, occurred August 2020, thus may have influenced measures. From measurements, it can be seen that replenishment significantly improved functioning riverbed. became evident increase quality only temporary. Hence, these will need repeated regularly maintaining ecologically-valuable habitat conditions. results study also showed provides insights sediments, their composition, permeability
