Proving the proverbial gadfly: situating the historical and racial context of Southern medical works by Mary Louise Marshall

ABSTRACT
Health sciences librarianship has historically benefited from avoiding critical conversations around the role of race in profession, reflected through a select few number articles on topic. The purpose this study was to add body literature and apply framework early scholarly record health legacy integration within Medical Library Association (MLA). Three Southern medical works views Mary Louise Marshall, longest-serving president MLA 1941 1946, were thematically textually analyzed redress profession's long-standing with Whiteness Black, Indigenous, People Color (BIPOC) representation. In reframing historic past both Marshall's her views, goal is acknowledge ways which profession impeded progress present steps remedy appropriate outreach for future.
