ABSTRACT
Purpose: While pump manipulation is rarely problematic in male patients with artificial urinary sphincters (AUSs), the situation may differ female due to anatomical or cultural factors. This study aimed evaluate prevalence of difficulties among AUS patients, identify associated risk factors, and explore management strategies for this challenging issue. Methods: Data were collected from all who underwent a robotic implantation at single academic center between 2014 2022. The primary endpoint was temporary difficulties, defined by least one other short hospitalization learn manipulation. Results: Out 88 included study, 20 experienced initial manipulating pump, accounting 22.7% group. Temporary reported 16 (18.2%), while 4 (4.5%) had their devices permanently deactivated. Surgical reoperations reposition necessary 5 representing 5.6% sample. only variables significantly longer operative time (183.4 minutes vs. 159.1 minutes, P=0.04) overall experience (32 50, P=0.04). sole variable linked serious (11 47, P=0.004). Although median age body mass index higher group these differences not statistically significant. Conclusions: Difficulties are relatively common patients. Most can be resolved through repeated patient education careful follow-up. However, some lead complications. Raising awareness issue, along ongoing meticulous follow-up, help minimize consequences.
