ABSTRACT
Hospital or community acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) have been described as an important public health problem, becausetheir resistance to beta-lactam and others antibiotics like macrolides, lincosamides, clindamycin, aminoglycosides sulfonamides. In this study we identified MRSAprevalence at the Foundation of Tropical Dermatology Venereology Alfredo daMatta in Manaus, Brazil. The data were obtained from culture susceptibilitytests register book, clinical bacteriology laboratory, between September 1998and October 2007. 1,500 patients, 783 (52.2%) female 717 (47.8%) male,1,494 tests processed. 239 S. aureus isolated 232 submittedto susceptibility test, where 44,0% (102/232) presented oxacillin resistancewith 15.5% MRSA prevalence. Oxacillin/methicillin makes generalantibiotic therapy more complicated. concern with rates prevalence orincidence infections caused by MSRA are justified eventual failure theinfectious process therapy, most it complicated potential elevated morbidityand mortality adults well children. Besides actions control andmonitoring minimize risk colonization professionalsor research is also necessary characterize genotypically hospital orcommunity origin these microorganisms.
