Knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of the population of Chisinau municipality regarding antibiotic use

ABSTRACT
Introduction. The irrational use of antibiotics is one the main factors contributing to accelerated development antimicrobial resistance worldwide. Despite regulations established control procurement drugs, rate self-prescribing and self-treatment with antimicrobials remains very high in most countries. To plan further measures combat this resistance, a thorough understanding current reasons behind behavior required. aim study explore general public’s knowledge, attitudes, regarding antibiotic consumption. Material methods. A cross-sectional was conducted using questionnaire developed by World Health Organization assess preparations. administered 10 randomly selected locations Chisinau municipality, including bus trolleybus stops, shopping centers, universities, medical institutions. Results. survey included sample 572 participants an average age 36 years. majority were female (60.0%). overall level awareness benefits harms 63.8%, appropriate practices demonstrated 68.3% respondents. These include purchasing prescription (60.0%) taking until completing course treatment (77.0%). Conclusions. Misconceptions counterintuitive undoubtedly complicate efforts AMR can lead unintended consequences. Developing educational promoting responsible are crucial priorities combating ensuring effective outcomes.
