Mortality study of workers employed by the Italian National Institute of Health, 1960-1989.

ABSTRACT
A cohort mortality study was conducted to evaluate the cancer risk of workers employed by National Institute Health in Rome, Italy. Cancer evaluated for research staff. deficit overall found men, but not women. Elevated (albeit statistically nonsignificant) standardized ratios were pancreas (men 155, women 236), brain 159), lympho- and reticulosarcomas 233, 512), lymphatic hematopoietic tumors (women 623). In addition had a significantly elevated breast (288). Although most these results, with exception among women, significant, due limited size, they point existence excess risks some tumors. The possibility that increases are related exposures occurring laboratory setting deserves further consideration.
