ABSTRACT
Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as connected sensors are increasingly being used in the public sector, often deployed and collecting data spaces. While broadly perceived beneficial by policy makers, technology presents new challenges for governance. A theme commonly seen rhetoric surrounding space IoT initiatives is empowerment. However, it important to ask who empowered benefits, we must ensure that technological interventions follow democratic principles trusted citizens.In this paper describe work utilises design fiction a community setting explore questions privacy, management, risk trust relation deployments. Our findings suggest agency, transparency intent associated with systems key components be considered, particularly when multiple actors stakeholders involved.We good governance requires consideration these their entirety, throughout process, consultation impacted, including public. To achieve effectively, argue at device system level, which may require legislative change.
