ABSTRACT
This study aimed at investigating the prenatal development of camel circumvallate papillae using standard histomorphometric methods. In experiment, fifteen Camelus dromedarius foetuses obtained from Sokoto metropolitan abattoir different gestational ages were used for study. The fetuses weighed and grouped according to their which estimated crown-vertebral-rump length. From tongues study, five belonged being in first trimester development, came second next third trimester. A total ten males females. all stages elongated, with flattened rounded apex .At trimester, almost uniform width thickness throughout They uniformly pinkish, withoutpigmentation no visiblelingual papillae. At observed have taken normal shape an adult tongue variable size lingual papillae; tapering rostrally root apex. Biometrically, weight found be 0.18±0.05 21.70±7.28 kg crown – vertebral rump length 15.75±4.42 94.00±2.83cm head 25.05±15.17 1120.00±14.14g 0.79±0.22 116.25±11.49g Histological observations showed that coveredwith keratinized stratified squamous epithelium, was composed by basal, spinosum, granulosum corneum layers. Lingual glands located deeper parts surface epithelium less keratinised compared surrounding except peripheral papilla. Dermal inter-digitations sizes into epidermis along whole surface. Few taste buds medial papillary wall small-sized
