Phthalocyanine photosensitizers possess good photosensitization properties, but their high hydrophobicity lack targeting capabilities limit application. By conjugating pentalysine peptidyl moiety hydrophobic phthalocyanine, photosensitizer (ZnPc(Lys)5) was synthesized. This review systematically summarizes design, development, safety characterization ZnPc(Lys)5, describes its applications mechanisms anti-tumor, anti-bacterial anti-viral areas, well exploring prospects beyond photodynamic therapy. demonstrates that peptide conjugation an effective strategy enhancing water solubility broadens phthalocyanine-type photosensitizers. Furthermore, importance dynamic balance between monomeric aggregate conformations phthalocyanine underlying effect highlighted, providing fresh perspective design application
