ABSTRACT
Human neutrophil elastase (HNE) has been shown to be involved on death of different cell types, including epithelial lung cells, which is related several pulmonary diseases. Since HNE activity may influenced by extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), and fibroblasts are the most common ECM-producing cells connective tissue, aim this work was verify if can induce fibroblast study enzyme modulation GAGs. HNE-like mimicked using human neutrophils conditioned medium (NCM). Heparan sulfate chondroitin 6-sulfate reduce modify its secondary structure. NCM reduced viability, effect higher in presence those also increased DNA fragmentation, suggesting occurrence apoptosis, but without influence These results contribute understanding physio- pathological processes where involved.
