ABSTRACT
Background: Studies have shown positive outcomes for patients treated by hospitalists, however, the impact of Patientmanagement Accountable Metrics (PAM) contract among hospitalists on financial and clinical is unclear. This study intends to determine PAM these outcomes. Methods: retrospective cohort conducted in a 7-hospital health system southeast U.S. region included 93,037 adult inpatients 264 discharged 2018. It measures total cost, variable contribution margin, length stay (LOS), 30-day readmission mortality per inpatient discharge. Univariate multivariable regression analysis were used measuring outcomes. Results: When compared with non- contracted estimated case $437 ([95% CI: $326 $548]) lower $123 $73 $173]) $361 $241 $481]) higher 0.37 days 0.33 0.42]) shorter LOS, readmissions probability an odds ratio 0.82, 0.79 0.86]). The contractual status was not significant rates. Study hospital projected $17 million annual cost reduction, $14 margin 14,000 patient savings if all contracted. Conclusions: indicates that had hospitalists. These findings may help hospitals improve while reducing costs margin.
