Power Dynamics in the Evolution of Blockchain

In this paper, drawing on past IS research how IT affects power dynamics in organization and networks, we focus blockchain technologies. After describing analyzing two mini-cases of creation use, critically discuss the all actors involved: code, creators, developers, maintainers, institutional forces users. We therefore contribute to literature governance use organizations networks. do so by exploring among key socio-technical involved significant decision-making processes early lifecycle stages blockchain. The insights gain from exploratory study support prior that indicates developers may sit a privileged position ecosystems, while also demonstrating unique other present. By contrasting these with those found technologies, e.g., ERP AI, help expose exist blockchain-enabled decentralized settings. Potential avenues for future theoretical testing development, as well practical implications managers or engaging emerging technologies are provided.
