ABSTRACT
Liver transplantation is the most important therapeutic intervention for end-stage liver disease (ELD). The prioritization of these patients based on model (MELD), which can successfully predict short-term mortality. However, despite its great validity and value, it cannot fully incor porate several comorbidities disease, such as sarcopenia physical frailty, variables that sufficiently influence survival patients. Subsequently, there growing interest in importance frailty regard to mortality transplant candidates recipients, well role improving their rates. To evaluate effects an active lifestyle candidates. An observational study was performed within facilities Department Transplant Surgery Aristotle University Thessaloniki. Twenty tran splant candidate from waiting list department were included study. Patients bedridden, had recent cardiovascular incidents, or required inpatient treatment more than 5 d last 6 mo excluded following evaluated: Activity level via International Physical Questionnaire (IPAQ); functional capacity 6-min walking test (6MWT) cardiopulmonary exercise testing; Frailty Index (LFI).According responses IPAQ, divided into two groups activity level: Active group (A, 10 patients); sedentary (S, patients). Comparing mean values recorded showed results: MELD (A: 12.05 ± 5.63 vs S: 13.99 3.60; P > 0.05); peak oxygen uptake 29.78 6.07 mL/kg/min 18.11 3.39 mL/kg/min; < 0.001); anaerobic threshold 16.71 2.17 13.96 1.45 0.01); 6MWT 458.2 57.5 m 324.7 55.8 m; LFI 3.75 0.31 4.42 0.32; 0.001).An be associated with better musculoskeletal capacity, while simultaneously preventing evolution candidates. This effect appears independent severity.
