ABSTRACT
Villa Marelli Institute (VMI), Niguarda Ca'Granda Hospital, Milan, Italy.A recent report on the fatal side effects of isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) from United States has re-ignited discussion safety this intervention. To evaluate IPT feasibility, treatment completion and adverse events (AE) their determinants under field conditions.Data consecutive subjects undergoing at VMI were recorded in an electronic database 1992 to 2009. Logistic regression analysis was performed detect AE determinants.A total 11,963 patients included study. (odds ratio [OR] 2.70, 95%CI 2.22-3.28) human immunodeficiency virus positive status (OR 5.20, 2.10-12.93) main interruption among Italians, while social weakness (no housing/job; OR 2.88, 2.43-3.42), AEs 1.33, 1.15-1.53, screening undocumented 1.20, 1.01-1.44) prevailed foreigners. Age determinant transaminase increase 1.03, 1.03-1.04), as gastrointestinal 1.02, 1.02-1.03), central nervous 1.02-1.05) peripheral systems 1.04, 1.02-1.05).This demonstrates feasibility IPT, with being predictable addressable.
