Analysis of the profile of colon and rectal neoplasia: hospital records of the National Cancer Institute José Alencar Gomes da Silva

ABSTRACT
Objective: to analyze the profile of patients with colon and rectal cancer between 2018 and 2022 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Methods: A descriptive study with a quantitative approach was carried out using data from patients diagnosed with colon and rectal neoplasia in the hospital records of the José Alencar Gomes da Silva National Cancer Institute (INCA). Results: in the period between 2019 and 2022, 591 cases of patients with colon and rectal neoplasia were registered in the information system. Conclusion: the patients who were diagnosed with colon and rectal cancer were in the adult age group, were men, brown, with low education and married, in relation to health history, most patients were former consumers of alcoholic beverages, as well as tobacco or tobacco products and the family history for cancer was positive in most cases, Regarding clinical conditions, the histological type adenocarcinoma was the most prevalent, with advanced carcinogenesis, the most commonly used treatment was surgery, and partial remission of the disease after one year of treatment was the most prevalent. These data are important for patient education, as well as the planning and execution of cancer diagnosis and treatment policy.
