Diagnosing fibromyalgia in rheumatoid arthritis: The importance of assessing disease activity

ABSTRACT
This study aims to evaluate fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) incidence based on 2010 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and the association between FMS with disease activity, functional status quality life (QoL).The included 151 RA (32 males, 119 females; mean age 52.4±12.7 years; range 21 82 years) 77 controls (13 64 53.7±10.2 33 73 years). Individuals were classified into four groups presence FMS. Group 1 both (n=53), group 2 without (n=98), 3 (n=15), 4 (n=62). Demographic characteristics, morning stiffness (MS), pain, Disease Activity Score 28 (DAS28), QoL scores compared among groups.No significant differences found as regards gender distribution (p>0.05). Higher MS, DAS28, drew attention. While was 8.1% remission, it 53.9% active RA, 19.5% controls.Although higher inflammatory disease, evaluated ACR diagnostic be common general population. DAS28 markers FMS; thus, has been concluded that sleep disorder widespread pain caused by may facilitate diagnosis
