ABSTRACT
Abstract Objectives To assess the distribution of health care expenditure (public and private) for primary as proportions overall funding. Study design The Primary Care Spend model; estimated three tiers services by provider function. Setting model applied to Australian expenditure, public private, 2020–21, from a sector perspective, recorded Institute Health Welfare. Main outcome measures Proportions all spending essential community functions (tier A), comprehensive (services delivered in general practices family physician clinics; tier B), enhanced (long‐term holistic patient care; C). Results In 33.2% Australia was classified 6.0% 0.8% long term Conclusions application data provides more nuanced analysis than routine reports. Its output could be used inform targets on different tiers, types, locations care, especially other high value services, monitor progress toward these targets.
