ABSTRACT
Field studies of the inselberg flora north-eastern Brazil have resulted in discovery much greater morphological diversity genus Ameroglossum, than previously envisaged. These enigmatic plants are endemic to isolated rock outcrops, which long been surrounded by unsuitable habitat. The forms geographically and stable cultivation when grown under similar conditions. We here provide detailed descriptions two known species propose an additional seven new genus. A taxonomic revision genus, including identification key is provided. hypothesize that evolution this driven their hummingbird pollinators. Due threatened nature habitats small populations found for most taxa, described likely be threat need formal redlisting.
