ABSTRACT
Context.— Rapid onsite evaluation (ROSE) is critical in determining sample adequacy and triaging cytology samples. Although fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) the primary method of initial tissue sampling Tanzania, ROSE not practiced. Objective.— To investigate performance cellular providing preliminary diagnoses breast FNAB a low-resource setting. Design.— Patients with masses were recruited prospectively from clinic at Muhimbili National Hospital. Each was evaluated by for overall specimen adequacy, cellularity, diagnosis. The interpretation compared to final cytologic diagnosis histologic diagnosis, when available. Results.— Fifty cases evaluated, all adequate on interpretation. Overall percentage agreement (OPA) between 84%, positive (PPA) 33%, negative (NPA) 100% (κ = 0.4, P < .001). Twenty-one had correlating surgical resections. OPA 67%, PPA 22%, NPA 0.2, .09). 95%, 89%, 0.9, <.001). Conclusions.— False-positive rates are low. While high false-negative rate, concordance diagnoses. Therefore, role should be considered carefully settings, it may need paired additional interventions improve pathologic
