IBD Diagnosis Delay and Its Predictors in Jordan: A Retrospective Study

ABSTRACT
Aim: Delayed diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may lead to increased treatment costs and surgical risks. This study aims describe the extent IBD delay in Jordan. Methods: Our included 110 patients, utilizing interviews medical records from Jordan University Hospital. Data covered sociodemographic characteristics, health history, time symptom onset diagnosis, first consultation number physicians consulted before IBD-related history. Results: The median was 9 months. Median times for Crohn's (CD) ulcerative colitis (UC) were 11 months, respectively. Regression analysis revealed that longer delays associated with higher paternal education levels. Lower maternal levels (high school or less) a household income between 1200 2000 Jordanian dinars correlated consulting more diagnosis. Conclusions: Early aggressive is essential IBD, as delayed negatively impacts patient outcomes. Further research needed identify factors contributing delay. findings suggest parental influence delays, highlighting importance targeted awareness campaigns specific population groups general practitioners mitigate delays.
