ABSTRACT
There are several studies that have proposed different criteria for evaluating the volumes of cerebral hemispheres, lateral and third ventricles in patients with schizophrenia seen on routine computed tomography (CT) images. These approaches use solely volume cerebrum and/or ventricles, length width measurements ventricle to brain ratio (VBR). In present study, we a new unbiased approach namely fraction (VBF). CT scans 23 matched controls were blindly assessed by three independent observers. VBF, total calculated compared. The subjects showed higher VBF than control (P =0.000) mean (±SEM) values 2.71±0.16 1.62±0.10%, respectively. No gender difference was found. Older had those younger but not patients. Correlation observed estimations made observers (r = 0.979; P = 0.000). The measuring VBR revealed inconsistent findings. Comparing or between two groups, instead using method, will provide reliable data. described here easily could be used analysis structures standard requiring any additional expense. addition; evaluation whole section series gives real ventricular volumes.   Key words: Cavalieri (CT), schizophrenia.
