ABSTRACT
Santa Catarina is the greatest oyster and mussel producer in Brazil. The main cultivated species are exotic Crassostrea gigas, native rhizophorae Perna perna. Most of production concentrated capital city Florianopolis. This work aimed to assess possible alterations organic chemical composition marine sediments caused by intense cultures. For this purpose 17 sedimentary samples have been collected inside outside two farms south bay region Values atomic C/N ratio varied between 4.5 6.3, whereas H/C averaged 0.8, indicating predominance planktonic derived matter. Concentration total phosphorus for all from both 73 355 ug g-1 dry weight sediment. Below producing areas concentration (OP) was higher than inorganic (IP). Aliphatic hydrocarbons, extending n-C11 n-C40, were found regions. Sterols terrigenous sources also samples, with concentrations 3 22 g-1. With exception cholesterol, no significant difference sterols below culture could be associated production. monocarboxylic saturated unsaturated acids similar farms. biodetritus, faeces pseudofaeces extract gigas showed or distinct those identified samples. In terms increase OP cholesterol values seem related cultures. DOI: 10.5935/1984-6835.20120032
