ABSTRACT
Breaking bad news to cancer patients is a delicate and challenging task for most doctors. Better understanding of patients' preferences in breaking can guide doctors performing this task.This study aimed describe the Malaysian regarding communication news.This was cross-sectional conducted Oncology clinic tertiary teaching hospital. Two hundred adult were recruited via purposive quota sampling. They required complete Malay language version Measure Patients' Preferences (MPP-BM) with minimal researcher assistance. Their responses analysed using descriptive statistics. Association between demographic characteristics domain scores tested non-parametric statistical tests.Nine items rated by as essential: "Doctor honest about severity my condition", describing treatment options detail", telling me best options", Doctor letting know all different being up date on research type cancer", directly", "Being given detailed info results medical tests", told person", "Having doctor offer hope condition". All these had median 5/5 (IQR:4-5). The three domains were: "Content Facilitation" 74/85, "Emotional Support" 23/30 "Structural Informational 31/40. Ethnicity found be significantly associated Support". Educational status Support".Malaysian appreciate ability provide adequate information good skills during process news. Provision emotional support, structural support informational also highly appreciated.
