ABSTRACT
The factor structure of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) has rarely been adequately analyzed (e.g., performing principal component analyses rather than factorial approximations). We aimed to evaluate psychometric properties PCS through a variety exploratory and confirmatory approaches.Three hundred ninety-four Chilean patients with musculoskeletal pain were included (age, M = 49.61, SD 18.00; 71.57% women). Eight models proposed analyze data. In addition, validity evidence based on relationships other variables considering intensity kinesiophobia. The results suggest unidimensional structure. Models more one dimension exhibited undesirable loadings or inadequate indices fit. Based these results, short version scale composed 4 items is (PCS-4). PCS-4 scores demonstrated high levels invariance between sex, chronicity, education groups also associated Spanish showed reliability for measuring catastrophizing in Chileans who suffer from pain. form that should be explored future studies Spanish-speaking populations).
