ABSTRACT
In eukaryotes, the organization and function of microtubule cytoskeleton depend on allocation different roles to individual microtubules. For example, many asymmetrically dividing cells differentially specify behavior at old new centrosomes. Here we show that yeast spindle pole bodies (SPBs, centrosomes) control plus-end dynamics cargoes their astral microtubules, remotely from minus-end. The SPB recruits kinesin motor protein Kip2, which then translocates emanating promotes extension delivers dynein into bud. Kip2 recruitment depends Bub2 Bfa1, phosphorylation cytoplasmic prevents random lattice binding. Releasing its by SPBs equalizes distribution, length microtubules distribution between mother cell These observations reveal organizing centers use minus directed remote individualize function.
