Prevalence and Risk Factors for Intestinal Parasitic Infections in a Rural Community in “Consolación del Sur” Municipality, Cuba

ABSTRACT
Intestinal parasites are very common infections worldwide and they responsible for significant public health problems.The World Health Organization estimates that one-third of the world population is infected some epidemiologic factors related to transmission have been identified.The purpose this investigation was study prevalence intestinal parasitic in people living rural community "El Canal", Consolación del Sur municipality association with risk factors.All participants were subjected three methods parasitological examinations on stool samples by immunodiagnostic tests which allow detection excretory-secretory antigens adults Fasciola hepatica.The global rate (IPIs) 18%, 16.7% protozoan infections, while helminth infection lower (5.3%) studied.The univariate analysis identified associated pathogenic include livestock work, drinking water from well\river eating unwashed fruits/vegetables.The multivariate logistic regression using introduction test ratified these factors.Contrary what published majority Cuban studies carried out places, a higher than found.This discrepancy may be explained because workers stock-breeders not involved other agricultural work.The identification important order design appropriate strategies control IPIs communities.
