Finding and figuring flow: Notes toward multidimensional poetry visualization

ABSTRACT
Under a grant funded by the NEH in US and AHRC, ESRC, JISC UK, we are collaborating with computer scientists to create digital poetry visualization tools for fellow creative writers literary scholars, beginning sonic patterns moving on first more abstract figural constructs such as images metaphors then relationships among poems. Like other humanities teams, aim develop software that will help readers recognize analyze poems aids close readings eventually larger scholarly inquiries. What hope distinguish our project from efforts, though, is strong emphasis placing poetry’s multidimensionality—especially its relationship experience of time, which working access through time-dependent visualizations via metaphor “flow.”
