Abstract Ultra‐high‐pressure eclogites from the Dabie orogen that formed over a range in temperatures (∼600 to > 700 °C) have been investigated with combined Lu–Hf and Sm–Nd geochronology. Three eclogites, sampled Zhujiachong, Huangzhen Shima, yield ages of 240.0 ± 5.0, 224.4 1.9 230.8 5.0 Ma corresponding 222.5 217.6 6.1 224.2 2.1 respectively. Well‐preserved prograde major‐ trace‐element zoning garnet Zhujiachong eclogite suggests age mostly reflects an early phase growth continued time...
Detailed electron- and ion-microprobe analyses were carried out on atoll-shaped normal garnets in ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphic eclogite from Dabie, east-central China. Compositional profiles of both rings atoll show well-preserved growth zoning with a decrease Mn, Ca, heavy rare earth elements (HREEs), an increase Mg toward rims. Manganese middle element (MREE) enrichments are observed near garnet Island- peninsula-shaped inside atolls homogeneous major the same composition as rims,...
Oceanic-type high-pressure eclogite from the Huwan mélange in western part of Dabie orogen, north classic ultrahigh-pressure terrane, has been investigated with combined Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd geochronology. The eclogites are thought to have formed during subduction oceanic crust prior Yangtze craton beneath North China block. Garnet garnet-whole rock dates yield similar ages 257.4 ± 1.4 252.5 2.7 Ma, youngest reported thus far this mélange. Despite partially preserved prograde major- traceelement...
Abstract We present Lu–Hf dates from multiple growth zones within two large garnet porphyroblasts by a micro‐sampling method. A single eclogite sample, taken the Huwan shear zone in Hong'an orogen, was investigated with geochronology and traditional bulk separation methods. The sample contains few up to several centimetres diameter second major population of smaller (0.1–2.0 mm) porphyroblasts, comprised dark cores pale rims. Elemental compositions mineral inclusions appear consistent...
Abstract The existence of ancient rocks in present mid-ocean ridges have long been observed but received less attention. Here we report the discovery zircons with both reasonably young ages about 5 Ma and abnormally old approximate 180 from two evolved gabbroic that were dredged Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR) Gallieni fracture zone. U–Pb Lu–Hf isotope analyses made using ion probe conventional laser abrasion directly petrographic thin sections. Young their host oxide gabbro positive Hf...
The self-diffusion coefficients D and the viscosities η of elemental Ni, Cu, Ni-Si alloys have been calculated over a wide temperature range by molecular dynamics simulations. For Ni Arrhenius-law variations with dominate. dependence Dη can be approximated linear relation, whereas Stokes-Einstein relation is violated. calculations are extended to regions close crystallization Ni(95)Si(5), Ni(90)Si(10), glass transitions Ni(80)Si(20) Ni(75)Si(25). results show that both strongly deviate from...
Abstract Understanding convergent margin processes requires determination of the onset and termination subduction, duration subduction‐zone metamorphism, subduction zone polarity. Garnet growth intracrystalline zonation can be used to constrain timing, kinetics tectonometamorphic processes. An eclogite from Huwan shear in Hong'an orogen was investigated with combined pseudosection analysis multiple geochronologies. The illustrates that garnet is continuous along an early near‐isothermal...
Abstract Accurately defining the peak ages and timescales of high‐temperature metamorphism is fundamental to unravelling tectonic dynamics. However, metamorphic constraints are frequently hampered by a large spread zircon U–Pb without explicit textural relationships. Integrated garnet petrochronology may clarify ambiguous retrieved from ancient rocks. There long‐standing debate on interpretation c . 2.5–1.8 Ga for granulites North China Craton. In order timing duration...
Zircon inclusions, extracted from garnet an ultrahigh-pressure eclogite in the eastern part of Dabie orogen, were investigated with high spatial resolution U-Pb geochronology. The unzoned zircon rims have and omphacite inclusions show weak cathodoluminescence, low-Th/U ratios (0.02-0.18), flat rare-earth elements patterns, absence Eu anomalies, which suggest metamorphic growth presence feldspar. Dispersed concordia ages, ranging 205.1 ± 3.3 to 255.3 6.1 Ma, defined a weighted mean 206Pb/238U...
