We consider the problem of predicting rate mass transfer to a fluid flowing parallel axes randomly placed aligned tubes, model hollow-fibre contactors. The analysis is carried out for limiting cases short contactors, which concentration boundary layers remain thin compared with radius and fully developed case corresponding very long tubes. Numerical simulations random arrays are increased. This behaviour arises due logarithmically divergent nature disturbances caused by each tube in plane...

Effective-medium theories for predicting conditionally averaged velocity field and hydrodynamic transport coefficients of monodisperse suspensions are extended to bidisperse suspensions. The predictions the theory shown agree very well with results direct numerical simulations hard-sphere configurations up volume fractions at which phase separation in systems observed.

Radon is a radioactive gas that can be generated from concrete. Its concentration enhanced in indoor environments, and tracheobronchial deposition of radon progeny lead to lung cancers. Aggregates (granite) are known the source Recently, silica fume introduced as partial substitution Portland cement produce high-strength It set aggregate−cement paste interface lower porosity zone. also effectively fill up voids between grains, which suggests its ability retard emission concrete aggregates....

Light-weight concrete (LWC) (or drywall construction) has been used for partition walls in public housing Hong Kong about 10 years. A previous laboratory investigation showed that all types of LWC had considerably smaller Rn exhalation rates than those from normal (NC), and could thus theoretically reduce the indoor concentrations corresponding radiation dose Rn. In present investigation, a survey at 39 dwelling sites built using were carried out charcoal canisters ?-spectroscopy. The mean...
