Several polymers have been used to detect nitroaromatic explosives by a variety of transduction schemes. Detection relies on both electronic and structural interactions between the sensing material analyte. Quenching luminescent electron deficient explosives, such as trinitrotoluene, may be monitored explosives. Resistive using carbon black particles that coated with different organic deposited across metallic leads can also vapors in an nose approach. Frequency changes surface acoustic wave...
The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and fluorescence quenching efficiency of polymers copolymers containing tetraphenylsilole or tetraphenylgermole with Si−Si, Ge−Ge, Si−Ge backbones are reported. Poly(tetraphenyl)germole, 2, was synthesized from the reduction dichloro(tetraphenyl)germole 2 equivs Li. Silole−germole alternating copolymer 3 by coupling dilithium salts dianion dichloro(tetraphenyl)germole. Other tetraphenylmetallole-silane copolymers, 4−12, were through Wurtz-type...
The syntheses, spectroscopic characterizations, and fluorescence quenching efficiencies of polymers copolymers containing tetraphenylsilole- or silafluorene-vinylene repeat units are reported. These materials were prepared by catalytic hydrosilylation reactions between appropriate monomeric metallole alkynes hydrides. Trimeric model compounds methyl(tetraphenyl)silole-vinylene trimer (1), methyl(tetraphenyl)silole-silafluorene-vinylene cotrimer (2), methylsilafluorene-vinylene (3)...
Colloidal suspensions of 3-aminopropylmethyl(tetraphenyl)silole nanoparticles can be used as selective chemosensors for carcinogenic chromium(VI) analyte. Methylhydrosilole is functionalized by hydrosilation allylamine, and the colloid prepared rapid addition water to a THF solution silole. The method detection through electron-transfer quenching fluorescence silole (lambda(em) = 485 nm at 360 excitation) analytes, with hundred parts per billion limits. Stern-Volmer plots are linear up 10...

Nitrous oxide in the earth's atmosphere contributes to catalytic stratospheric ozone destruction and is also a greenhouse gas component. A precise budgetary accounting of N(2)O sources has remained elusive, there an apparent lack source identification. One as by-product manufacture nylon, specifically preparation adipic acid. Characterization reaction stoichiometry its isotopic composition with simulated industrial acid synthesis indicates that because high rates global production, this may...
Nitroaromatic explosives can be detected in a simple and rapid method by the quenching of photoluminescence fluorescent polysiloles. Quenching is achieved electron transfer from conduction band polysiloles to electron-poor molecules such as picric acid, nitrobenzene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT), 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). Dilute polymer solutions also employed forensic spray-on reagent visualize TNT or acid residues under UV lamp (see picture print nitrile-gloved hand that had been contact with TNT).
The sensitivities of metallophthalocyanine (MPcs: M = Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and H2) chemiresistors to vapor phase electron donors were examined using 50 nm MPc films deposited on interdigitated electrodes. Sensor responses measured as changes in current at constant voltage. Analytes chosen span a broad range Lewis base hydrogen bond strengths. sensor correlated exponentially with binding enthalpy. These exponential fits consistent the van't Hoff equation standard free energy relationships....
The gas sensing behaviors of cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) and metal-free (H2Pc) thin films were investigated with respect to analyte basicity. Chemiresistive sensors fabricated by deposition 50 nm thick on interdigitated gold electrodes via organic molecular beam epitaxy (OMBE). Time-dependent current responses the measured at constant voltage during exposure vapor doses. analytes spanned a range electron donor hydrogen-bonding strengths. It was found that, when exceeded critical base...
The synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of a series new blue-emitting silafluorene–fluorene copolymers is described. polymers are synthesized using kinetically controlled hydrosilylation copolymerization 1,1-dihydridosilafluorene with 9-substituted 2,7-diethynylfluorenes. contain trans-only framework molecular weights in the range 13 000–20 000, as determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) polystyrene standards, 1H NMR spectroscopy dimethylphenylsilane an end-capping marker...
Hollow silica nanospheres were prepared by template growth of gel on monodisperse (100−500 nm) polystyrene beads coated with poly-l-lysine, followed calcinations. A similar route was used to prepare titania nanospheres.
Silica nanoparticles are being investigated for a number of medical applications; however, their use in vivo has been questioned because the potential bioaccumulation. To obviate this problem, silica nanoshells were tested enhanced biodegradability by doping iron(III) into nanoshells. Exposure doped to small molecule chelators and mammalian serum was explored test whether removal from nanoshell structure would facilitate its degradation. Iron chelators, such as EDTA, desferrioxamine,...
The detection of nitroaromatic molecules in air by the quenching photoluminescence porous silicon (porous Si) films has been explored. Detection is achieved monitoring (PL) a nanocrystalline Si film on exposure to analyte interest flowing stream. quenched nitroaromatic, presumably an electron-transfer mechanism. limits 500 parts-per-billion (ppb), 2 ppb, and 1 ppb were observed for nitrobenzene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT), 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), respectively (exposure times 5 min each,...
