We present a comprehensive geochemical data set for the most recent volcanics from Mariana Islands, which provides new constraints on timing and nature of fluxes subducting slab. The lavas display many features typical island arc volcanics, with all samples showing large negative niobium anomalies enrichments in alkaline earth elements lead (e.g., high Ba/La Pb/Ce). Importantly, these key ratios correlate range 238 U excesses, ( U/ 230 Th) = 0.97–1.56. Geochemical show to variations; Guguan...

Stable Hg isotope ratios provide a new tool to trace environmental cycling. Thiols (-SH) are the dominant Hg-binding groups in natural organic matter. Here, we report experimental and computational results on equilibrium fractionation between dissolved Hg(II) species thiol-bound Hg. chloride nitrate solutions were equilibrated parallel batches with varying amounts of thiol resin resulting different fractions free Mercury both analyzed by multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass...

Soils are the product of a complex suite chemical, biological, and physical processes. In spite importance soils for society sustaining life on earth, our knowledge soil formation rates influence biological activity mineral weathering geochemical cycles is still limited. this paper we provide description Damma Glacier Critical Zone Observatory present first synthesis multidisciplinary studies 150‐yr chronosequence. Building Blocks of Earth formed from an explosive and energetic series collisions that accreted material over millions years. Comparisons between rocks Earth's interior more primitive extraterrestrial samples can help tease apart the composition starting material; however, discrepancies abundance certain elements or their isotope ratios often obscure origin. Fitoussi Bourdon (p. 1477 , published online 1 March) analyzed silicon isotopes a suite chondritic meteorites Moon to reconcile some...

The application of Hg isotope signatures as tracers for environmental cycling requires the determination fractionation factors and mechanisms individual processes. Here, we investigated Hg(II) sorption to goethite in batch systems under different experimental conditions. We observed a mass-dependent enrichment light isotopes on surface relative dissolved (ε(202)Hg -0.30‰ -0.44‰) which was independent pH, chloride sulfate concentration, type complex, equilibration time. Based previous...

We obtained Hf–W metal-silicate isochrons for several H chondrites of petrologic types 4, 5, and 6 to constrain the accretion high-temperature thermal history chondrite parent body. The silicate fractions have 180Hf/184W ratios up ∼ 51 182W/184W 33 ε units higher than whole-rock. These high radiogenic W isotope result in highly precise ages. ages become younger with increasing metamorphic grade range from ΔtCAI = 1.7 ± 0.7 Ma H4 Ste. Marguerite 9.6 1.0 H6 Kernouvé Estacado.
