Abstract Orientational anisotropy of T 2 and 1 relaxation times, diffusion, magnetization transfer has been investigated for six different tissues: tendon, cartilage, kidney, muscle, white matter, optic nerve. Relaxation was observed tendon diffusional measured in All other NMR measurements these tissues showed no orientational dependence. This pattern anisotropies can be interpreted from the underlying geometrical structures tissues.
To investigate the use of standard magnetic resonance (MR) imaging sequences with simple parameter modifications for detection and characterization total hip arthroplasty (THA) complications. An initial phantom study was performed cobalt-chrome titanium prostheses to establish parameters a subsequent clinical study. In study, coronal transverse MR 14 THA before after intravenous contrast material administration in 12 patients who were being considered revision arthroplasty. The images...
Nine patients with initial magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and clinical findings suggestive of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF) underwent MR angiography an autotriggered elliptic centric ordered three-dimensional gadolinium-enhanced technique (hereafter, this angiographic technique) before conventional intraarterial angiography. In all nine patients, correctly precisely localized the AVF. Observer error resulted in one case which site was not prospectively reported but easily...
Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) promotes the growth, differentiation, maintenance and survival of neurons. These attributes make BDNF a potentially powerful therapeutic agent. However, its charge, instability in blood, poor blood brain barrier (BBB) penetrability have impeded development. Here, we show that engineered clathrin triskelia (CT) conjugated to (BDNF-CT) delivered intranasally increased hippocampal concentrations 400-fold above achieved previously with intranasal alone....
Schwann cells (SCs), which produce neurotropic factors and adhesive molecules, have been reported previously to contribute structural support guidance during axonal regeneration; therefore, they are potentially a crucial target in the restoration of injured nervous tissues. Autologous SC transplantation has performed shown promising clinical results for treating nerve injuries donor site morbidity, insufficient production considered as major issue. Here, we differentiation tonsil-derived...
Auto-triggered elliptic centric-ordered three-dimensional (3D) gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) angiography was compared with 3D multiple overlapping thin-slab acquisition time-of-flight (TOF) MR in the evaluation of intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) 10 patients. Intraarterial digital subtraction (DSA) reference standard. Gadolinium-enhanced angiograms were found to be equivalent DSA images AVM component depiction 70%–90% cases and consistently superior TOF angiograms.
No medication is approved to treat cocaine addiction, but mounting evidence suggests that glutamate-directed approaches may reduce dependence and relapse. We tested the hypotheses glutamate transporter subtype 1 activator, ceftriaxone, disrupts acquisition of self-administration, motivation self-administer cocaine, conditioned place preference in mice. Repeated ceftriaxone (200 mg/kg) reduced ability mice acquire after successful without affecting or for sweet food. had no effect on...
Blood and muscle T1 T2 relaxivity was examined under normoxic (air; 20.8% O2) hyperoxic (100% conditions to determine whether the oxygenation state of blood in large vessels microcirculation can be monitored vivo. The femoral artery/vein soleus gastrocnemius muscles were healthy human male volunteers. Arterial decreased with hyperoxia, while venous increased, due increased dissolved O2 deoxyhemoglobin, respectively. A biexponential model is proposed, where short component reflects primarily...
β-Lactam antibiotics enhance cellular glutamate uptake. As increased glutamatergic transmission is a primary mediator of opiate dependence, we tested the hypothesis that β-lactam antibiotic (ceftriaxone) prevents development morphine physical dependence in rats. Morphine (20 mg/kg) was injected twice daily for 10 days to induce dependence. Naloxone (10 administration 1, 48, and 96 h after last injection induced withdrawal syndrome characterized by appearance wet-dog shakes, teeth chattering,...
The objective of this study was to determine whether intraoperative laxity the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) is associated with adverse postoperative outcomes after volar plate fixation a radius fracture (DRF) and 4 weeks immobilization.Prospective clinical radiographic assessment.Level 1 trauma center. One hundred consecutive patients were treated by locking at our institution for an unstable DRF from April 2007 November 2009. Of these patients, 84 minimum follow-up 12 months enrolled in...
Background In intra-articular fracture of distal radius, the fragments can be divided into some specific fragments. particular, poor outcomes have been well documented for reduction loss volar lunate facet, but effect a displaced dorsal rim has rarely addressed. Materials and Methods The records 26 patients with fragment by more than 2 mm after locking plate (VLP) fixation dorsally radius (DRF) treated from March 2006 to 2009 were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical assessments including grip...
Mounting evidence suggests a potential link between cocaine abuse, disruptions in hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis signaling, and neuroplasticity, but molecular mechanisms remain unknown. Neurogranin (Ng) is gene containing thyroid hormone-responsive element within its first intron that involved synaptic plasticity. Transcriptional activation requires heterodimerization of hormone receptor (TR) retinoid X (RXR) bound by their respective ligands, tri-iodothryonine 9-cis-retinoic acid...
This study was performed by using an institutional review board–approved protocol, with waived informed consent and HIPAA compliance. The purpose of this to preliminarily evaluate a cine delayed-enhancement (DE) pulse sequence for depiction wall motion myocardial scar extent during single acquisition. technique is based on inversion-recovery single-shot balanced steady-state free precession magnetic resonance imaging. Cine DE images were acquired in 26 patients (18 men, eight women; age...
Abstract In‐plane carotid artery motion during a 3D MR angiography (MRA) scan can significantly degrade the resulting image resolution. This study characterizes effect of cardiac pulsatility on contrast‐enhanced (CE) MRA with elliptical centric acquisitions using point‐spread function (PSF) analysis. Internal (ICA) was collected from volunteers and patients both ultrasound (US) scans. After measuring displacement, simulation performed which calculated blurring effects for three different...
Abstract In spin echo imaging, magnetization is assigned to a location defined by its frequency of rotation. the presence static magnetic field inhomogeneity, however, this does not correspond true magnetization. This paper describes resonance imaging technique called phase constrained encoding (PACE) that assigns through use echotrain and alternating readout gradients. Small artifactual sidebands occur in point spread function but can be minimized or eliminated using higher gradient...
