The magnetic structure and electronic groundstate of the layered perovskite Ba2IrO4 have been investigated using x-ray resonant scattering (XRMS). Our results are compared with those for Sr2IrO4, which we provide supplementary data on its structure. We find that dominant, long-range antiferromagnetic order is remarkably similar in two compounds, Ba2IrO4, deduced from an investigation XRMS $L_3/L_2$ intensity ratio, consistent a $J_{eff}=1/2$ description. robustness these key properties to...

We investigate the high-energy magnetic excitation spectrum of high-T(c) cuprate superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+δ) (Bi-2212) using Cu L(3) edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering. Broad, dispersive excitations are observed, with a zone boundary energy ∼ 300 meV and weak dependence on doping. These strikingly similar to bosons proposed explain "kink" observed in photoemission.
