Microspectroscopic imaging techniques based on spontaneous Raman scattering, Stimulated Scattering (SRS), or fluorescence (with a selective dye) can be used to detect environmental microplastics (MPs) and determine their chemical as well physical properties. The present study first focuses optimizing the sample preparation, including new design for density separation apparatus optimization of Nile Red staining procedure. Tests were carried out with both white colored reference materials, MPs...
Abstract Raman spectroscopy is a valuable tool for non-destructive vibrational analysis of chemical compounds in various samples. Through 2D scanning, it one can map the surface distribution heterogeneous sample. These hyperspectral images typically contain spectra pure that are hidden within thousands sum spectra. Inspecting each spectrum to find dataset impractical, and several algorithms have been described literature help analyze such complex datasets. However, choosing best approach(es)...
Sclerotic thickening of tissue is a common and perhaps universal response to recurrent irritation inflammation. Take any organ in the human body, inflame it, subsequently examine reparative process, it will involve an increased deposition collagen result sclerosis. Thus, not surprising that, patients subjected (and possibly continued) inflammation peritoneal cavity, sclerotic changes membrane should occur. In recent issue theArchives(1980;140:1201-1203), Gandhi et al report that who have...
Millions of women worldwide have silicone breast implants. It has been reported that implant failure occurs in approximately a tenth patients within 10 years, and the consequences dissemination debris are poorly understood. Currently, detection histopathological slides is based on morphological features as no specific immunohistochemical technique available. Here, we show feasibility sensitivity stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) imaging to specifically detect material stained slides, without...

Breast implant surgery is one of the most frequently performed procedures by plastic surgeons worldwide. However, relationship between silicone leakage and common complication, capsular contracture, far from understood. This study aimed to compare Baker grade I with IV capsules regarding their content in an intradonor setting, using two previously validated imaging techniques.
Raman spectroscopy is a well-established method for chemical identification, with wide variety of applications. The two major limitations are that fluorescence can hamper detection, and imaging slow; it typically takes multiple hours to measure even small surface area. We have developed multimodal setup mitigates these limitations. has point-scanning mode allows time-gated as well continuous spectroscopy, both modes use an 80 MHz, 532 nm excitation laser up 20 W power. suppression...
Hyperspectral Raman imaging not only offers spectroscopic fingerprints but also reveals morphological information such as spatial distributions in an analytical sample. However, the spectrum-per-pixel nature of hyperspectral (HSI) results a vast amount data. Furthermore, HSI often requires pre- and post-processing steps to extract valuable chemical information. To derive pure spectral signatures concentration abundance maps active compounds, both endmember extraction (EX) Multivariate Curve...

ABSTRACT Breast augmentations, commonly performed for aesthetic or medical reasons, often use silicone (polydimethylsiloxane [PDMS]) implants. Some patients develop complications like capsular contracture, where scar tissue forms around the implant. Previously, we used stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy to detect and quantify in stained capsule tissue, finding a correlation between amount contracture severity. However, suspected loss during histological preparation, which includes...
