Highly stable glass films of indomethacin (IMC) with thicknesses ranging from 75 to 2900 nm were prepared by physical vapor deposition. Alternating current (AC) nanocalorimetry was used evaluate the heat capacity and kinetic stability glasses as a function thickness. Glasses deposited at substrate temperature 0.84T(g) displayed capacities that approximately 19 J/(mol K) (4.5%) lower than T(g) (315 or ordinary cooling liquid. This difference in observed over entire thickness range is...

Vapor-deposited glasses of toluene and ethylbenzene have been characterized by in situ ac chip-nanocalorimetry. The high sensitivity this method allows the detection small changes heat capacity nanogram size samples. We observe that vapor-deposited up to 4% lower capacities than ordinary glass. largest decrease most kinetically stable are observed a range deposition temperatures between 0.75 T(g) 0.96 T(g). Compared larger molecules, rate has minor influence on kinetic stability these...

In situ AC nanocalorimetry was used to measure the reversing heat capacity of vapor-deposited glasses decahydronaphthalene (decalin). Glasses with low and high kinetic stability, as compared corresponding liquid-cooled glass, were prepared from cis-decalin several cis/trans-decalin mixtures. This is first report highly stable glass formation for molecular The 50/50 mixture highest fragility material reported produce an ultrastable glass. exhibited a ∼500 nm film deposited at 116 K (0.86 Tg)...

The reversing heat capacity of vapor-deposited o-terphenyl glasses was determined by in situ alternating current nanocalorimetry. Glasses were deposited at substrate temperatures ranging from 0.39 Tg to Tg, where is the glass transition temperature. near 0.85 exhibited very high kinetic stability; a 460 nm film required ∼104.8 times structural relaxation time equilibrium supercooled liquid transform into state. For most stable glasses, lower than that ordinary liquid-cooled (1 ± 0.4)%; this...

Physical vapor deposition can be used to produce thin films with interesting material properties including extraordinarily stable organic glasses. We describe an ac chip calorimeter for in situ heat capacity measurements of as-deposited nanometer glass formers. The calorimetric system is based on a differential which placed the vacuum chamber physical deposition. sample directly deposited onto one sensor while other protected against device and temperature calibration procedure are...

Two new bicyclobutanes were prepared from cyclobutyl systems by a novel, solvolytic, carbocation-based methodology. An electron-withdrawing perfluoroalkyl group at the incipient cationic center enhances neighboring-group participation of γ-silyl group, inducing facile, remarkably selective 1,3-elimination yielding only bicyclobutanes. The method unlocks potential access to host EWG-substituted strained rings and for synthesis trifluoromethylcyclopropanes.

The reversing heat capacity of vapor-deposited glasses α,α,β-tris-naphthylbenzene (ααβ-TNB) was measured using alternating current (AC) nanocalorimetry. Glasses deposited at 0.85 Tg, where Tg is the glass transition temperature, have a 4 ± 1% lower than ordinary prepared by cooling from liquid. This result efficient packing and consistent with higher density glass. Isothermal experiments show that ααβ-TNB also enhanced kinetic stability respect to transformation into supercooled liquid, as...

Sarcocystosis was diagnosed in 41 eighteen-month-old heifers and steers. Clinical signs included anorexia, severe weight loss, nervousness, hypersalivation, lameness, hair loss on the extremities. Hair noticed especially at end of tail, where there complete switch, giving animals a "rat-tail" appearance. Consistent gross changes observed necropsy four affected generalized lymphadenopathy, erosions ulcerations oral cavity esophagus, laminitis. Microscopically, young cysts Sarcocystis sp were...

Introduction: Histologic transformation (HT) is a singular event in the natural history of patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) which dramatically change clinical course and portends poor prognosis. Efforts to date understanding pathobiology HT FL (HT-FL) have been focused on genomic factors leading clonal evolution cells. In present study we aimed investigate contribution host immune system HT-FL. Methods: Patients newly diagnosed grade 1-3a were prospectively enrolled Molecular...

Moss sporophytes are physically attached to and dependent on the leafy gametophyte through their entire life. During early development, sporophyte apex is covered by calyptra, a cap of gametophytic tissue which protects developing capsule.
