Abstract Objective: To examine a structural equation model of the effects personal and interpersonal factors on treatment outcome bariatric surgery weight‐loss program. Method: Forty‐four participants group 47 diet completed questionnaires before 1 year afterward. Predictor measures are as follows: social support, motivation for control, sense self‐esteem, neuroticism, fear intimacy, emotional eating (EE). Outcome measures: Weight loss, qual‐ity life, mental health. Results: Neurotic...
While heterosexist family undermining has been demonstrated to be a developmental risk factor in the life of persons with same-gender orientation, issue protective factors is both controversial and relatively neglected. In this study Israeli gay males (N = 114), we focused on interrelations support, acceptance knowledge male identity formation, their effects mental health self-esteem. A path model was proposed based hypotheses that acceptance, knowledge, formation have an impact...
Past research of relationship quality in same–sex couples has emphasized similarities with heterosexual couples. The present study examined both general and gay–specific intra– interpersonal factors as predictors gay men's durability satisfaction. Our proposed path model postulated effects contextual variables on self relationships (i.e., social support/acceptance context for attachment security, self–acceptance, intimate relationships). data, collected from an Israeli sample men ( N = 121),...
In an ongoing molecular genetic study of temperament, participants were genotyped to examine the association smoking with two polymorphisms serotonin transporter gene (SERT): promoter region, 5-HTTLPR, and intronic variable-number-of-tandem-repeats region (VNTR).Full information was available for 330 families, 244 "ever smokers" identified (54 past smokers, 190 current smokers). The average number cigarettes smoked per day 13.12, mean Fagerstrom Tolerance Questionnaire score 4.79....
Abstract The dopamine D4 receptor ( DRD4 ), a well‐characterized, polymorphic gene, is an attractive candidate for contributing risk to disordered eating and anorexia nervosa (AN). We tested association using UNPHASED 5 loci, 3 promoter region SNPs (C‐521T, C‐616G, A‐809G), the 120 bp tandem duplication exon III repeat, in 202 AN trios 418 control families. Since perfectionism characterizes AN, we these five loci with Child Adolescent Perfectionism Scale (CAPS) groups. Single locus analysis...
Purpose: We tested the hypothesis that aesthetic athletes (AA) have anorexic-like eating attitudes and behaviors, share personality characteristics such as perfectionism obsessiveness, are at high risk of disorders. Methods: compared symptomatology, variables typical anorexia nervosa, lifetime disorder prevalence across four groups Israeli women: 31 anorexics, 111 AA (mostly dancers), 68 nonaesthetic (NAA), 248 controls. All participants completed self-report measures harm avoidance,...
Abstract. Two markers near the vasopressin receptor (AVPR1A) gene located on chromosome 12q14-15 were tested for linkage to two complex social behaviors in humans: Sibling relationships and self-presentation style. Self-report questionnaires administered 552 same-sex siblings from 248 families. Suggestive was observed between both microsatellites (RS1 RS3) Relationship Questionnaire Conflict scale (RS1: χ 2 = 13.65, LOD 2.96, p .0001; RS3: 14.54, 3.16, .00007) Concern Appropriateness Scale...
Atrocities committed by soldiers are a common occurrence that harms not only victims, but also perpetrators, armies, and nations. However, censorship, limited access to information, the tendency deny one's evil project it onto other impede investigation into how ordinary cross line between legitimate fighting excessive violence. This study examined processes associated with Israeli soldiers' brutal behaviors during first Intifada. Participants were 21 male combat veterans of two companies...
Abstract Objectives Considerable evidence including twin and family studies suggests that biologic determinants interact with cultural cues in the etiology of anorexia bulimia nervosa. A gene makes “biologic sense” contributing susceptibility to these disorders, our knowledge not previously investigated for this phenotype, is vasopressin receptor ( AVPR1A ), which we have tested association eating pathology. Methods We genotyped 280 families same‐sex siblings two microsatellites promoter...
Abstract Although there is considerable evidence that culture-related factors are associated with aggressive behavior, their effect on the development of conduct problems (CP) has been insufficiently studied. This study focused adherence to honor code (AHC), defined by endorsement culture attitudes at identity narrative level personality assessment, as a mediator in prediction CP callousness, insecure attachment, and socioeconomic status. Our sample 136 adolescent boys (M age = 15.02, SD...
We examined the factor structure, reliability, and construct validity of a Hebrew translation Lennox Wolfe’s Revised Self-Monitoring Scale (RSMS) Concern for Appropriateness (CAS) in large Israeli population sample. A total 1,294 individuals (1,010 females 284 males), divided into two samples, completed RSMS, CAS, Tridimensional Personality Questionnaire Harm Avoidance Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. With exception RSMS Item 12, subscale structure English versions scales was replicated...
Abstract The objective of this study was to explain why adolescent girls with conduct problems (CP) are more at risk than boys develop emotional distress (ED) in a sample composed Israeli-born and immigrant youth from Ethiopia the former Soviet Union (n = 305, ages 14–18). We tested structural equation model found very good fit data for both nonimmigrant groups. hypothesized effects gender, CP, parent–child relationships on ED were significant, whereas effect family discord mediated by...
The ‘Tend-and Befriend’ hypothesis claims that whereas the response of males to stress is Fight-or-Flight, females respond with Tend-and-Befriend. We tested this a sample 110 couples whose children had undergone neurosurgery. Both mothers and fathers answered questionnaires measuring levels tending, befriending, stress, anxiety, depression. As hypothesized, scored higher than did on all measures. However, according Tend-and Befriend hypothesis, sex difference in tending befriending should be...
Systems consultation to provider agencies can contribute considerably the development of a collaborative, family‐oriented approach in these agencies. The possibilities for such an undertaking depend on establishment working relationships at two interfaces: between system consultant and agency, agency its client families. A framework developing three sequential phases is proposed: involvement, collaboration, empowerment (ICE). Each phase characterized by dominant issue that processed time. It...
