Abstract This paper describes the relationship between visual attention and eye blink frequency. In an experiment, we prompted activation of a subject’s examined influence (as measured using electrodermal activity (EDA), which is meaningfully correlated with attention) on Experimental results show that engagement decreased frequency when was not activated, increased. Knowledge this provides technique EDA to objectively determining status.
We have developed the person following robot "ApriAttendatrade". This can accompany a using vision based target detection and avoid obstacles with ultrasonic sensors while person. The first identifies an individual its image processing system by detecting person's region recognizing registered color texture of his/her clothes. Usually, has to detect recognize specified calculate position in complicated real-life environment fixed objects moving people. Our newly algorithm allows extract...
The paper describes a 2D sound source mapping system for mobile robot. We developed multiple sources localization method robot with 32 channel concentric microphone array. can separate moving using direction localization. Directional and separation of different pressure is achieved the delay sum beam forming (DSBF) frequency band selection (FBS) algorithm. Sound were mapped by wheeled equipped localizes sounds on move estimates position triangulation. Assuming movement sources, set time...
Tibial stress fractures are among the most common and potentially serious overuse injuries in runners. The thought to be related part, excessive loading variables, such as vertical average rate (VALR) instantaneous (VILR). Although there several methods for calculating running, little is known about differences between results produced by these methods. purpose of this study was compare 3 previously published VALR VILR during running. 9 male participants ran on a treadmill at 2.5, 3.0, 3.5...
Nakadai et al. (2001) have developed a real-time auditory and visual multiple-talker tracking technique. In this paper, technique is applied to human-robot interaction including receptionist robot companion at party. The system includes face identification, speech recognition, focus-of-attention control, sensorimotor task in multiple talkers. implemented on upper-torso humanoid the talker attained by distributed processing three nodes connected 100Base-TX network. delay of 200 msec....
The paper presents an ultrasonic sensor network system that can be utilized in elderly care homes. One of the problems aging society is shortage carers homes for aged; imposes increasing workload on and leads to a deterioration quality elderly. authors developed reduce carers. monitors people nursing room continuously remotely, and, when it detects accident-prone events or accidents elderly, notifies about occurrence such events. was installed home Tokyo has been running several months....
This paper describes a three ring microphone array estimates the horizontal/vertical direction and distance of sound sources separates multiple for mobile robot audition. Arrangement microphones is simulated an optimized pattern which has rings implemented with 32 microphones. Sound localization separation are achieved by delay sum beam forming (DSBF) frequency band selection (FBS). From on-line experiments results horizontal vertical localization, we confirmed that one or two sounds could...
The paper proposes an odometry-free 3D mapping system that combines a LIDAR and inertial sensor. proposed achieved robust 6DoF pose estimation for arbitrary motion is implemented as hand-held unit to make use of simplified mobile applications. algorithm based on "Velodyne SLAM" which state the art ICP SLAM (Simultaneous Localization Mapping) method using only point cloud data. We added 3DoF information process correction position prediction. Compared previous method, rotary works fast large...
The design and control of an active ankle-foot rehabilitation orthotic system that was designed as a wearable portable walking assistive tool is presented. This device can measure assist the six degree freedoms (DOFs) movement human ankle joint by using Stewart platform mechanism, which adapt to displacement rotation axis during foot. estimation method instantaneous motion also proposed. In this paper, measurement performance developed evaluated. Static dynamic reproduction verification...
In this study, we developed a simulation game called "Human SUGOROKU" that consists of full-body interaction system to enable elementary school students enjoy and learn vegetation succession. The students' sense immersion is improved by enabling them play using their body movements. We conducted an experiment with the investigated affects through interviews. results showed promotes in game. This paper describes structure interview results.
This paper proposes a function for monitoring patient's respiration and posture in sleep using human symbiosis system sickroom. The novel features of the lie noninvasive unrestrained to ensure with human. Noninvasive eliminates need needles or catheters invade body; sensors thus do not impose physiological burden such as pain on patient. In monitoring, their electrical cords limit degrees freedom movement. Unrestrained sensing therefore does psychological caused by limitations A "robotic...
This paper presents a tracking vision for human collaborative robot. It tracks back and shoulder the robot to follow person. Obviously it would be very convenient comfortable us if could in real world. But is not easy keep even background image so complex cluttered. Thus authors solve problem by utilizing their robust pattern detection identification system. against fluctuation of location, size, brightness. contributes robustness that choose texture clothes as template patterns detected...
This paper proposes that a vision based robust person following method under varying illumination. The is using color stereo camera and laser range sensor. detected on disparity images HSV spaces from distance information the developed applies for an inverted pendulum type robot (Segway RMP) humanoid service (enon). validity of proposed methods confirmed though experiments in in/out door environment.
This paper proposes a monitoring system for human respiration and posture in sleep using pressure sensor array. The proposed consists of 221 sensors (Force Sensing Resistors: FSRs) attached to the surface bed. Each array is set 5 [cm] apart. novel features lie non-invasive unrestrained posture. Non-invasive eliminates need needles or catheters invade body, thus do not impose physiological burden such as pain on him her. In monitoring, their electrical cords limit degrees freedom his her...
This paper proposes a novel human symbiosis robot named Expressive Mobile Robot. Through its behavior and movement it successfully realize nonverbal communication to humans. Towards the future aging society human-robot is keenly needed. To such symbiosis, familiarity of crucial. The proposed Robot produces familiar impression humans through behavior, action motion. It does no real task other than expression. Based upon consideration gestures, prototype has been designed implemented....
[abstFig src='/00280005/06.jpg' width='300' text='Developed device' ] According to a worldwide WHO survey, about one-third of people at the age 65 or older experience least one fall year, which may result in severe injury. Meanwhile, population developed world is increasingly aging, and incidents can be therefore considered as global problem. The causes falls include weakening tibialis anterior gastrocnemius muscles that respectively play important roles dorsal plantar flexion foot,...

Abstract Electrodermal Activity (EDA) refers to change in the electrical properties of skin during mental exertion caused by tension and agitation. In recent studies, it has been revealed that there is an overlap between brain activation area where emotion occurs responsible for attentiveness. Consequently, this paper we test our hypothesis that, given these findings, visual attention can be estimated via EDA. The results experiments conducted verify EDA used as index.

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) are making continuous progress in order to solve issues vehicle traffic. However, drivers cannot adjust these advances, because ADAS can assist even complicated driving behaviors that require higher skills. The more advanced the interactions perform, risk system may have when used by who insufficient knowledge of system. Thus, it is important establish teaching or training methods, which enable become educated about ADAS. In this study, we developed...
