The Cam-Clay model for isothermal mechanical behaviour of clays has been extended to take account the effects temperature on stress–strain behaviour. assumptions used in constructing new are based published results and data presented paper. allows prediction how heating cooling affect volume changes, pore-water pressures, strengths both normally consolidated overconsolidated saturated clays. It permits modelling observed reductions overconsolidation ratio with increasing temperature....

Abstract To enhance local flood disaster mitigation, participatory approaches for community‐based risk communication are proposed using the workshops based on a Plan‐Do‐Check‐Action (PDCA) cycle. In our case study, floods due to heavy rain and river flooding was implemented at Kosen community in Kumamoto City, Japan, during 2006–2007. A hazard evacuation route map were produced verified through virtual desktop drills. The fundamental resident data obtained drills analyzed with respect timing...

Normalized pulse volume (NPV) derived from the ear has potential to be a practical index for monitoring daily life stress. However, NPV not yet been validated. Therefore, we compared an finger using transmission photoplethysmography as reference, with middle and four sites of reflection during baseline while performing cold warm water immersion in ten young six middle-aged subjects. The results showed that logarithmically-transformed (lnNPV) values was significantly lower, only at finger,...

Two models are proposed for describing the stress–strain behavior of sand–bentonite (buffer) mixtures at elevated temperatures: (1) isothermal pseudoelasticity and (2) elastic-plasticity. Data to support come from consolidated undrained triaxial compression tests performed on dense saturated buffer specimens effective confining stresses up 9.0 MPa temperatures 26°, 65°, 100 °C. Measurements indicate that volumes decrease with increasing temperature if carried out under drained conditions....

Taking a bath sometimes poses risk for subjects with chronic cardiopulmonary disorders, due to the thermal effect and water pressure on his/her body. The ECG measurement would be helpful early recognition of abnormal cardiac beats respiratory conditions. This paper describes new attempt improve previous bathtub techniques that had electrodes placed inside were intrusive subjects’ bathing experience. study is concerned initial development method measure an electrocardiogram (ECG) through tap...

We report a new methodology for detecting heat illness based on continuous tympanic temperature monitoring. This is relevant to industrial workers, astronauts, and pilots, as well athletes. Here we evaluate the method in Grand Touring (GT) car racers closed-cockpit category who can face life-threatening hyperthermia. The system comprises an earpiece containing infrared-radiation-type thermometer microspeaker. In 10 healthy subjects, using temperature-controlled water bath laboratory,...

Abstract Selective identification of men with clinically significant prostate cancer (sPC) is a pivotal issue. Development risk model for detecting sPC based on the imaging reporting and data system (PI-RADS) bi-parametric magnetic resonance (bpMRI) clinical parameters in Japanese cohort expected to prove beneficial. We retrospectively analyzed bpMRI findings from 773 biopsy-naïve patients between January 2011 December 2016. A was established using multivariate logistic regression analysis...
