We have studied the electronic structure of semimetal surface Bi(110) by high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission using synchrotron radiation. Several states are found very close to Fermi level giving rise a complex surface. As consequence, is much better metal than bulk, fact which could help explain observation superconductivity in granular systems built from small Bi clusters.

Angle-resolved photoemission data from Al(001) taken with photon energies up to several hundred electron volts show an unexpected surface sensitivity at high energies. The state the center of Brillouin zone can be clearly observed higher than 700 eV. bulk intensity ratio appears increase energy, despite longer inelastic mean-free path electrons and increased vibrational amplitude surface. We explain this surprising behavior by considering effect phonon excitation in event.

Abstract Accurate surface-dose measurements in proton therapy are challenging and often of poor spatial resolution for most dosimeter types. However, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) based 2D dosimeters could provide the required dose resolution. The aim this study was to investigate dosimetric precision energy dependence an in-house made reusable composed a silicone-film containing OSL-active nanoparticles. irradiated with clinical field readout compared results from commercial...

A deeper understanding of biological mechanisms to promote more efficient treatment strategies in proton therapy demands advances preclinical radiation research. However this is often limited by insufficient availability adequate infrastructures for precision image guided small animal irradiation. The project SIRMIO aims at filling gap developing a portable image-guided research platform irradiation, be used clinical facilities and allowing similar treatment, when scaled down the size. This...

Incorporating birefringence the Brillouin scattering kinematics of off-axis pure transverse (T1), quasi-transverse (T2), and quasi-longitudinal (L) phonons in hexagonal crystals has been derived case where optic axis lies plane. Numerical results are given for CdS. For T1 four possible diffraction geometries found a certain region phonon frequencies angles. Outside this two configurations obtained. The directional dependence anisotropic collinear is discussed. It shown that no lower cut-off...

We have measured angle-resolved photoemission spectra from Al(001) over a large range of temperatures and photon energies. These data were analyzed using model that allows one to calculate the intensity for transitions with simultaneous excitation/absorption 0, 1, 2, etc., phonons. By making simple simulation line shape, we show so-called direct transition (or quasiparticle) peaks always contain significant contribution events excitation and/or absorption 1 2 phonons, i.e., are actually...

We suggest that valence band photoelectron diffraction can be used to decompose a solid's density of states (DOS) into components different symmetry. This approach is illustrated by breaking down the aluminum its s and p components. The results reveal more s-like DOS at bottom p-like near Fermi level, in qualitative agreement with calculations. A quantitative comparison does, however, show measured contributions are narrower, i.e., ``atomiclike'' than calculated ones. Possible reasons discussed.
