Commercial office buildings represent the largest in floor area most developed countries and utilize substantial amount of energy provision building services to satisfy occupants’ comfort needs. This makes a target for occupant-driven demand control measures, which have been demonstrated as having huge potential improve efficiency. The application measures buildings, especially thermal, visual indoor air quality providing systems, account over 30% consumed typical is however hampered due...
Buildings have in recent years been the target of a number energy efficiency improvement strategies given that they are major end-use sector most countries. Whilst new buildings due to legislations, increasingly address sustainability and improved considerations, refurbishment process older still presents challenges. Advancement Information Communication Technology, particularly application low-cost Wireless Sensors Actuators Network does however provide opportunity harness yet unrealized...
Increasing demand for energy and emphasis on environmental sustainability has started to revolutionize the existing infrastructure within built environment. In parallel, more distributed systems are rapidly springing up. These changes inevitably influence design, operation management of buildings. Recently, evaluation buildings long-term decision-making planning shifted boundaries from single towards neighborhood scale. This is because as a cluster can enhance incorporation when realizing...
An aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) in combination with a heat pump is an excellent way to reduce the net usage of buildings. The use ATES has been demonstrated have potential provide reduction between 20 and 40% cooling heating systems are however complex system analyse as number ground conditions influence losses within aquifer. also not confined from sides therefore vulnerable through conduction, advection dispersion. analyses even further complicated when dynamic building...
The continued growth in variable renewable energy sources (VRES) has created increased focus on the use of office buildings for power flexibility activities. Office uniquely present opportunities relatively easy control adaptation during activities given their large thermal inertial and existing building automation. Though a number studies have outlined potentials flexibility, however only few clearly associated critical performance characteristics as it relates to comfort. Subsequently,...
Buildings are a key source of energy flexibility due to their high demand. Harnessing the buildings, however, demands that buildings be considered collectively. This paper presents preliminary results discover building's flexibility, from two different neighborhoods in Netherlands. The demand profiles three large each neighborhood analyzed identify possible useful simultaneous heating and cooling loads. Finally, possibility for exchange between these is explored.
Highly glazed building envelopes are still a common feature of today's modern architecture despite the on-going raging debate on energy and comfort performance highly buildings. It is argued by proponents high green designs that disadvantages buildings outweigh advantages when operational. In this study, through on-site measurement simulations, we investigated behaviour recently completed naturally ventilated double-skin façade system at in netherlands with complex form large atrium...
