Poor vitamin D status is a global health problem; insufficiency underpins higher risk of cancer, neurocognitive decline and all-cause mortality. Most foods contain little plants are very poor sources. We have engineered the accumulation provitamin D3 in tomato by genome editing, modifying duplicated section phytosterol biosynthesis Solanaceous plants, to provide biofortified food with added possibility supplement production from waste material.

Abstract Events of duplication and neo/subfunctionalization have significantly expanded the functional roles R2R3 MYB transcription factors in plants. In a previous study, we demonstrated that two paralogous MYBs from Solanum tuberosum S. commersonii, AN1 AN2 respectively, induce anthocyanin pigmentation to varying extents when transiently overexpressed. However, questions related distinct functions these genes remained unanswered. this further investigated by comparing transgenic tobacco...

The most abundant phenolic compound in Solanaceous plants is chlorogenic acid (CGA), which possesses protective properties such as antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. These are particularly relevant when under adverse conditions, pathogen attack, excess light, or extreme temperatures that cause oxidative stress. Additionally, CGA has been shown to absorb UV-B light. In tomato potato, mainly produced through the HQT pathway mediated by enzyme hydroxycinnamoyl-CoA:quinate...

Many countries have introduced mandatory labeling requirements on foods derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based upon the TaqMan probe chemistry has become method mostly used to support these regulations; moreover, event-specific PCR is preferred in GMO detection because of its high specificity flanking sequence exogenous integrant. The aim this study was evaluate use very short (eight-nucleotide long), locked nucleic...

We report the optimization of a high-throughput, compliant DNA extraction method that uses standard format 96-well plates and commercial automated purification system (ABI PRISM® 6100 Nucleic Acid PrepStation). The procedure was set up for maize soybean, most common GMO crops main ingredients several foodstuffs, compared with an EU-validated CTAB-based method. Optimization achieved by applying self-prepared buffers (for extraction, binding, washing) on PrepStation loaded proprietary...
