This paper examines the effect of digital transformation on pay gap between executives and employees using a large panel listed companies in China spanning 2013–2020. Using data from publicly traded firms in China, we examine the relationship between media attention and firms’ environmental protection efforts. We quantify the causal effects of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on air quality in context China.
