The Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR) is an activity of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry Project. This paper a component report, focusing on present-day distribution and trends tropospheric ozone relevant to climate global atmospheric chemistry model evaluation. Utilizing TOAR surface database, several figures present daytime average at 2702 non-urban monitoring sites, highlighting regions seasons world with greatest levels. Similarly, ozonesonde commercial aircraft...

Abstract. This paper describes the pre-operational analysis and forecasting system developed during MACC (Monitoring Atmospheric Composition Climate) continued in MACC-II Climate: Interim Implementation) European projects to provide air quality services for continent. is based on seven state-of-the art models run Europe (CHIMERE, EMEP, EURAD-IM, LOTOS-EUROS, MATCH, MOCAGE SILAM). These are used calculate multi-model ensemble products. The gives an overall picture of its status at end (summer...

From the earliest observations of ozone in lower atmosphere 19th century, both measurement methods and portion globe observed have evolved changed. These different uncertainties biases, data records differ with respect to coverage (space time), information content, representativeness. In this study, various datasets are reviewed selected for inclusion historical record background levels, based on relationship technique modern UV absorption standard, absence interfering pollutants,...

Abstract. We present a comparison of tropospheric NO2 from OMI measurements to the median an ensemble Regional Air Quality (RAQ) models, and intercomparison contributing RAQ models two global for period July 2008–June 2009 over Europe. The model forecasts were produced routinely on daily basis in context European GEMS ("Global regional Earth-system (atmosphere) Monitoring using Satellite in-situ data") project. vertical column shows spatial distribution which agrees well with observations,...

Abstract. We present a new multispectral approach for observing lowermost tropospheric ozone from space by synergism of atmospheric radiances in the thermal infrared (TIR) observed IASI (Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer) and earth reflectances ultraviolet (UV) measured GOME-2 (Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2). Both instruments are onboard series MetOp satellites (in orbit since 2006 expected until 2022) their scanning capabilities offer global coverage every day, with...

First partial tropospheric ozone columns (0–6 km) derived from radiances observed by the IASI instrument aboard MetOp‐A platform over Europe during summer 2007 are presented. They were retrieved using an altitude‐dependent regularization method. Comparison with measurements balloon sondes shows excellent agreement. Space‐borne observations show large lower amounts South‐Eastern heat wave period, which also displayed simulations a regional chemistry‐transport model CHIMERE.

Abstract. Air pollution reaching hazardous levels in many Chinese cities has been a major concern China over the past decades. New policies have applied to regulate anthropogenic pollutant emissions, leading changes atmospheric composition and particulate matter (PM) production. Abstract. The Mediterranean basin is one of the most sensitive regions in world regarding climate change and air quality. This partly due to singular dynamical situation that leads tropospheric-ozone concentrations are among highest over Northern Hemisphere. Abstract Ammonia (NH 3 ), whose main source in the troposphere is agriculture, an important gaseous precursor of atmospheric particulate matter (PM). We derived daily ammonia emissions using NH total columns measured from Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) on board Metop‐A, at a relatively high spatial resolution (grid cell 0.5° × 0.5°). During European spring haze episodes 24–31 March 2012 and 8–15 2014, IASI reveals column magnitudes highlighting higher over central Europe...
