This work shows a curvature vector sensing device based on single long-period grating written in commercial photosensitive optical fibre. The approach uses an artificial neural network multilayer perceptrons for data analysis. The eloquent cerebral cortices are involved in movement, sensation, speech, vision, and higher cortical functions. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) allows the evaluation of brain function, aiding neurosurgical planning by mapping areas. This work presents results concerning to the production and characterization of long‐period gratings in optical fibres using point‐to‐point writing technique with an ultraviolet laser. This work shows the thermal sensitivity of a long period grating immersed in six different external media, with refractive indices ranging from 1.0000 to 1.4315, corresponding air, water, ethanol, thinner, turpentine and kerosene. Changes negative positive values were quantified, behaviors transitioning linear non- linear, depending on index surroundings. Values for coupling thermo-optic coefficient are also determined.
