Oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) is a growth anomaly which occurs due to atypical proliferation, change in the architectural and cytological features of cells origin, resulting formation lesion with disturbed differentiation maturation. The purpose this study was describe OED cases diagnosed at Tygerberg Hospital seven-year period (from 2012 until 2019) determine demographics clinical location these cases. patients’ medical records from National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) were reviewed....
Limited data exist on the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma in sub-Saharan Africa. To determine HPV-positive at a large tertiary care center South Africa.A total 266 carcinomas diagnosed during an 11-year period (2007-2017) were selected for evaluation. Cases staining positive p16 immunohistochemistry evaluated high-risk HPV using BD Onclarity assay (BD Diagnostics, Sparks, Maryland).Of carcinomas, 14% (n = 36) p16. Polymerase chain...
We present a case of both unusual pathology and severity - giant maxillary gingival fibromatosis discuss the disease its management, accompanied by clinical imaging. This represents an overlap between maxillofacial oral surgery, may as demonstrated in this case.
Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumours (PMT) are rare, benign lesions and the most common tumour to cause tumour-induced osteomalacia (TIO), a paraneoplastic syndrome. Patients frequently exhibit severe osteomalacia, accompanied by multiple fractures, which significantly impair their quality of life. Complete surgical resection is curative.Contribution: A rare case sinonasal PMT presented, with focus on imaging findings role radiologist nuclear physician.
Syphilis has recently shown resurgence in its incidence especially immune-compromised patients. We present two cases of tertiary syphilis middle-aged males with large perforations the hard and soft palates, one which had Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) co-infection. Diagnosis was initially difficult due to non-specific features mimicking other conditions such as perforation cocaine abuse aetiology, neoplastic conditions, sarcoi-dosis, fungal infections, bacterial infections than Treponema...
Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) is a highly malignant and rare tumour characterised by complex admixture of teratomatous carcinosarcomatous components. In the head neck area, it almost exclusively occurs in sinonasal cavities; however, instances nasopharyngeal oral cavity involvement have been reported, with fewer than 100 cases reported literature. The contributed case involves correlative CT, MRI histopathology intracranial involvement.
The glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) remains a rare entity. It was initially named "sialo-odontogenic cyst" by Padayachee and Van Wyk in 1987 when they reported the first two cases.Thereafter term suggested Gardner et al. 1988 subsequently adopted WHO. 1 Ciliated surface cells were also noted as papillary projections of epithelium into lumen.Mucicarmine stain positive for mucin goblet intra-epithelial microcystic (glandular or pseudoglandular) spaces. The morphological features compatible with...

Abstract The botryoid odontogenic cyst is considered a rare multilocular variant of the lateral periodontal cyst. clinical, radiological and histopathological features case with coinciding compound odontoma, affecting anterior mandible, are presented. A 33‐year‐old South African male presented an asymptomatic, progressive, firm swelling right mandible. Radiographic examination revealed multilocular, radiolucent lesion corticated border causing buccal expansion erosion plate. In addition,...

Although squamous cell carcinoma accounts for the overwhelming majority of head and neck malignant neoplasms, extranodal follicular dendritic sarcoma (FDCS) pharyngeal region can have a similar clinical presentation. The histopathological features this rare entity been described emphasised in literature. We present case 65-year-old male patient with FDCS tonsil to illustrate radiologic findings also highlight infrequent but salient differential diagnosis adult neoplasia.
