The red algal order Bangiales has been revised as a result of detailed regional studies and the development expert local knowledge floras, followed by collaborative global analyses based on wide taxon sampling molecular analyses. Combined nuclear SSU rRNA gene plastid RUBISCO LSU ( rbc L) for 157 taxa have conducted. Fifteen genera Bangiales, seven filamentous eight foliose, are recognized. This classification includes five newly described two resurrected genera. revision constitutes major...

We investigated the genetic variations of samples that were tentatively identified as two cultivated Porphyra species ( yezoensis Ueda and tenera Kjellm.) from various natural populations in Japan using molecular analyses plastid nuclear DNA. From PCR‐RFLP internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA RUBISCO regions phylogenetic rbc L ITS‐1 sequences, our P. showed remarkably higher than found strains are currently used for cultivation. In addition, it is inferred contain four wild species, three...

SUMMARY To clarify the genetic diversity of Pyropia dentata complex in Japan, we conducted molecular analyses and morphological observations using samples collected from Amakusa region (the type locality), on East China Sea coast, Hirado, Japan Enoshima, Pacific coast Japan. Molecular phylogenetic rbc L gene clearly indicated that Enoshima ( cf. a previous study) were different species P. Hirado. The Hirado also genetically each other based tree. However, it was inferred these two localities...

The marine red algal genus Laurencia has abundant halogenated secondary metabolites, which exhibit novel structural types and possess various unique biological potentials, including antifouling activity. In this study, we report the isolation, structure elucidation, activities of two brominated diterpenoids, aplysin-20 aldehyde (1), 13-dehydroxyisoaplysin-20 (2), its congeners. We screened alga venusta Yamada for their activity against mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. Ethyl acetate extracts...

Porphyra tenera Kjellman, widely cultivated in nori farms before the development of artificial seeding, is currently listed as an endangered species Japan. To confirm whether a wild‐collected gametophytic blade was P. or closely related yezoensis Ueda, morphological observations and molecular analyses were made on pure line HGT‐1 isolated from wild blade. This identified based detailed features. Sequences nuclear internal transcribed spacer region 1 plastid RUBISCO revealed that clearly...

The Stylonematales is the sole order of Stylonematophyceae. consists a mixture filamentous or unicellular taxa that are small, grow on various surfaces, and described from many floras, indicating they may be cosmopolitan. Such ubiquity has been proposed to due properties microorganisms, such as large population sizes, rather than human-derived phenomena. While their small nature makes most records fortuitous, we targeted these red algae get better understanding global distribution, genetic...

The Erythropeltidales are a common group of small, mostly epiphytic, marine red algae. Morphologically, they can be divided into two main groups: species that crustose and upright. Being morphologically simple, generic boundaries evolutionary trends controversial or unknown. We focus our molecular phylogenetic analysis on members using samples collected from around the world placed in unialgal culture. Our data indicate one upright genus, Porphyropsis, is closely related to genera habit...
