Environmental radioactivity studies have been allowed establishing radiometric patterns in several area of the earth's crust. The work was conducted through analyses regions with high levels radionuclides and others no history anomalies. research profile soils state Pernambuco, Brazil, using a gamma spectrometry system. specific activities ranged from 16.5 to 287.5 Bq kg-1 for 238U, 2.0 191.7 226Ra, 1.3 281.4 232Th 5.0 2600.9 40K. results showed areas low ionizing radiation. However, 40K...

The crude oil contamination along the Brazilian Northeast coast significantly impacted reef ecosystems. This study assessed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water, bile bioconcentration of PAHs, and biochemical biomarkers damselfish Stegastes fuscus across four coral areas pre- post-oil contamination. Serrambi (SE) Japaratinga (JP1) were identified as suitable reference areas. PAH concentrations increased water post-contamination, predominantly 2 to 3 ring parent alkylated PAHs....

Surface and groundwater resources in the Seridó Region (Brazilian semiarid) were investigated to evaluate their current quality conditions suitability for domestic use. The water was characterized terms of physical, chemical, radiological parameters; including those required by Brazilian Drinking Water Quality Standard (DWQS). Information about major trace elements aspects are reported first time. Salinization confirmed as a key problem region, driven natural anthropogenic. Overall, has poor...

Besides being one of the most threatened forests, Brazilian Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest (Caatinga) is least studied ecosystem in Northeast Region. Soil composition has an important role biodiversity conservation since Caatinga suffers from degradation, salinisation and desertification, mainly caused by non-sustainable agriculture urbanisation. To identify priority areas for preservation, it necessary to know nutrient content soil other chemical elements, with information a consistent...

The radiometric monitoring carried out in the present study allowed discovery of anomalous granite outcrops natural radionuclides rural area São Mamede state Paraíba, Brazil. characterisation made it possible to determine maximum specific concentrations approximately 199 kBq kg-1 238U, 85 226Ra, 26 232Th and 24 40K. Models for environmental dosimetry were applied, which resulted obtaining following quantities: radium equivalent (Raeq), indices external (Hex), internal (Hin) representative...

High levels of primordial radionuclides have been reported in soils and rocks São José de Espinharas, the state Paraiba, Brazil. These are derived from high concentrations natural uranium thorium a mine region. Thus, there is need for dosimetric evaluation area near surrounding cities. In this study, annual effective dose was analyzed 178 points five The measurements were performed using thermoluminescent dosimetry with LiF:Mg, Ti (TLD-100). environmental exposure varied 0.71 to 2.07 mSv, an...

Toxicity of water accommodated fractions (WAF) from the oil spilled on Brazilian coast at different stages weathering were investigated using Danio rerio. Weathering included emulsified that reached (OM) and collected 50 days later deposited beach sand (OS) or adhered to shore rocks (OR). Parent alkylated naphthalenes decreased whereas phenanthrenes increased less weathered WAF-OM more WAF-OS WAF-OR. More WAF-OR potent inducers zebrafish developmental delay, suggesting parent are involved....

An increase of health problems has been reported in the city Triunfo, Paraíba, NE Brazil. This pattern attributed to environmental radiation since there are uranium deposits neighboring municipalities. The present study aimed carry a radiometric survey Triunfo determine effective dose from external outdoor exposure. results were obtained through 'in situ' measurements using gamma spectrometry system. ranged 0.06 0.38 mSv/y, mean 0.20 mSv/y. <title>Abstract</title> Trace metals are associated with various organic and inorganic components, appearing in different chemical forms, which regulate their solubility, mobility, availability to biological systems. Given this, it is necessary know the form these elements found since this defines potential for remobilization. Thus, work aimed evaluate distribution mobility of Pb, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Zn eight types soils from Northeast Brazil. The concentration fractions was determined through...
