In the present study, we describe a new species of Neoplecostomus from central Brazil. The is known Córrego Cachoeira right tributary upper Rio Paraná basin. It can be distinguished all congeners by absence adipose fin or azygous plates on dorsum surface caudal peduncle. Additionally, differs N. botucatu and paranensis having dark with unique v-shaped hyaline vertical area larger lower lip. A discussion morphological variation among also provided.

A new species of Hemigrammus is described from the upper Rio Negro, Amazon basin, Brazil. The distinguished all congeners by its unique color pattern consisting a single humeral blotch clearly spaced conspicuous midlateral dark stripe, which extends fifth or sixth anteriormost vertical scale row to basis middle caudal-fin rays. Comments on putative relationships are provided.

Abstract Neotropical tetras of the family Characidae form largest and most taxonomically complex clade within order Characiformes. Previous phylogenetic relationships concur on recognition four major subclades, whereas knowledge intergeneric interspecific remains largely incomplete or nonexistent. We sampled 575 specimens 494 species 123 genera classified in Characidae, generated new molecular data ultraconserved elements (UCEs), used likelihood Bayesian analyses. The phylogeny (1348 UCE...

Abstract A new species of Moenkhausia from the rio Culuene, Xingu basin, in Mato Grosso State is described here through genetic and morphological data. This differs all congeners by following combination characters: presence reddish color on posterior portion body, as well base anal, adipose, pelvic fins live specimens; a conspicuous midlateral dark stripe, which extends margin opercle to middle caudal-fin rays, becoming wider more vertical dorsal-fin origin; absence humeral blotch; blotches...

Abstract Pimelodidae is a family of large‐sized catfishes consisting 116 valid species divided into 30 genera distributed in the Neotropical region. Despite recent advancements understanding pimelodid phylogeny, several internal relationships have remained unclear and received limited support from various phylogenetic analyses. We provide new genomic dataset comprising 55 representing 25 related siluriform families Aspredinidae, Auchenipteridae, Cetopsidae, Doradidae, Diplomystidae,...

The Neotropical family Heptapteridae comprises 228 valid species widely distributed in South America. Imparfinis is one of the most diverse genera this family, with 25 distributed, inhabiting streams from Costa Rica to Argentina. Old descriptions coupled lack recent systematic studies Upper Paraná river basin have led a taxonomic impediment and hindered advancement other areas, such as ecology, cytogenetic, phylogenetic, evolution. We conducted first integrative study analyzing both...
